Delhi HC allows two-day custody parole to jailed MP Engineer Rashid to attend Parliament

The Delhi High Court allowed two-day custody parole to jailed J&K MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Rashid Engineer to attend the ongoing Parliament session. Justice Vikas Mahajan said Mr. Rashid could attend the Parliament session on February 11 and 13. Custody parole entails a prisoner being escorted by armed police personnel to the place of visit. Mr. Rashid was saddled with certain riders as bail conditions, including not using a cellphone or addressing media.

U.S. tariffs will not impact much Indian steel industry: Steel Secretary

The U.S. announcement to impose tariffs on steel imports will not have much impact on the Indian industry as the domestic market is strong and a small quantity is exported to America, Steel Secretary Sandeep Poundrik said on Monday (February 10, 2025). President Donald Trump said he will announce an additional 25% tariff on all steel and aluminium imports from different countries.

Complaint filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, others for ‘offensive remarks’ on India’s Got Latent; YouTuber apologises for ‘lapse in judgement’

The Mumbai police has initiated an inquiry, following a formal complaint filed against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of the show ‘India’s Got Latent’ after a series of alleged controversial and offensive remarks made on the show. “Inquiry is going on,” Mumbai police officials said. No case has been registered so far.

Indian restaurants among targets of UK ‘blitz’ against illegal migrants

Indian restaurants, nail bars, convenience stores, and car washes were among the targets of what the Home Office on Monday (February 10, 2025) described as a “UK-wide blitz” on illegal working in the country. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said her department’s Immigration Enforcement teams had a record-breaking January as they descended on 828 premises -- a 48% rise compared to the previous January, with arrests surging to 609, and marking a 73% increase from the previous year.

Sri Lanka imposes power cuts after nationwide outage caused by a monkey

Sri Lanka is scheduled to undergo a 90-minute power cut on Monday and Tuesday (February 10-11, 2025) following a breakdown in a coal power plant. Ceylon Electricity Board, the state power entity, decided on Monday given the shortage of supply owing to the failure at the 900-megawatt Norochcholai coal power plant in the northwestern region. The Ceylon Electricity Board in a statement said the 90-minute rationing will be in two slots between 3 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. in different areas on both days.

Days after Delhi defeat, Kejriwal to meet CM Mann, Punjab AAP MLAs on February 11 

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal will hold a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs from the state in the national capital on Tuesday (February 11, 2025) to discuss the Delhi assembly polls outcome, party sources said on Monday (February 10, 2025). The meeting comes two days after the Aam Aadmi Party’s rout in Delhi, where the BJP is set to form the government after a gap of more than 26 years.
