PM Modi offers linking UPI with payment systems of BIMSTEC nations

Seeking to impart fresh impetus to the BIMSTEC grouping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (April 4, 2025) proposed linking India’s UPI with the payment systems of the member nations, a move that could boost trade, business and tourism within the region. Addressing the sixth BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, the Prime Minister also proposed to set up a BIMSTEC Chamber of Commerce, organise annual business summits and explore promoting trade in local currencies within the region.

China announced on Friday that it will impose a 34% tariff on imports of all U.S. products beginning April 10, part of a flurry of retaliatory measures following U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” slate of double-digit tariff. The new tariff matches the rate of the U.S. “reciprocal” tariff of 34% on Chinese exports Mr. Trump ordered this week. The Commerce Ministry in Beijing also said in a notice that it will impose more export controls on rare earths, which are materials used in high-tech products such as computer chips and electric vehicle batteries.

Delhi High Court rules Wikipedia must remove India content deemed defamatory

The operator of Wikipedia has been ordered by the Delhi High Court to remove statements deemed defamatory from the page of news agency ANI that it hosts, the latest such directive to the popular online encyclopedia. AIMPLB spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas, while releasing the content of the letter written by General Secretary of the Board Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddadi, said on Friday (April 4, 2025) that the amendment introduced by the bill includes significant changes that impact the administration and autonomy of the Waqf Institution, which have historically played a crucial role in the religious and charitable activities.

India’s services sector activity eased slightly in March, weighed down by a marginal slowdown in sales amid softer demand conditions and easing inflationary pressures, a monthly survey said on Friday.
