Syria’s Assad and his family in Moscow after Russia granted them asylum, say Russian news agencies

Russian state news agencies are reporting that ousted Syrian President Bashar Assad has arrived in Moscow with his family and given asylum. The agencies, Tass and RIA, cited an unidentified Kremlin source. News agency TASS reported about Russia granting Assad and his family asylum. RIA also cited an anonymous Kremlin source that Moscow had received guarantees from Syrian insurgents of the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic posts in Syria. The report did not give further details.

Damascus embassy open, in touch with Indians

Officials of the Indian embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus are safe and are in contact with Indians in the conflict-hit country where the government of Bashar Al-Assad fell to a militant uprising on Sunday (December 8, 2024). “Our embassy continues to remain operational in Damascus, Syria. The embassy is in touch with all Indian nationals, and they are safe. The embassy remains available to assist Indian nationals in Syria,” said a source in the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Congress on Sunday (December 8, 2024) said that leaders of INDIA bloc parties from violence-hit Manipur would go ahead with their protest against the BJP-led NDA governments in the State and at the Centre at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 9. The Centre has urged states to submit action plans to effectively implement the menstrual hygiene policy for school girls to ensure access to low-cost hygiene products and gender-responsive sanitation facilities in public and government-aided schools. The Union Health Ministry’s letter to all States comes after the Supreme Court on November 12 stated that the effective roll-out of the policy would require comprehensive action plans tailored to the specific needs and contexts of each State and UT.
