Labourers trapped in ‘flooded’ Assam coal mine

At least half a dozen labourers are feared trapped in a flooded coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. There is no clarity on how water seeped into the mine but a preliminary police report, citing some locals, said four to six workers have been trapped inside the pit since about 8 a.m. on Monday. The spot is about 30 km from the nearest police station at Umrangso and takes about seven hours to reach from Haflong, the district headquarters.

Eight District Reserve jawans killed after Naxals blow up vehicle in Chhattisgarh

Eight jawans of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and a civilian driver were killed after Naxals blew up their vehicle with a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday (January 6, 2025), police said. This was the biggest strike by Maoists on security forces in the state in the last two years and the first assault in 2025.

Nimisha Priya case handled by Houthi militias, death sentence not ratified by President: Yemen Embassy

The Embassy of the Republic of Yemen has denied that President Dr. Rashid Al-Alimi ratified the death sentence for Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya. In a communique on Monday (January 6, 2025), the Embassy addressed the recent reports regarding the case of Ms. Nimisha Priya, who is on death row at the Central prison in Yemen’s capital Sanaa.

ISRO’s SpaDeX docking experiment postponed to January 9

The docking of the two Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) satellites scheduled for January 7 has been postponed to January 9. “The SpaDeX Docking scheduled on 7th is now postponed to 9th. The docking process requires further validation through ground simulations based on an abort scenario identified today. Stay tuned for updates,” the ISRO said in a post on Monday (January 6, 2025).

U.S. taking steps to clear hurdles for civil nuclear partnership with Indian firms: Jake Sullivan

United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Monday (January 6, 2025) that the United States is finalising necessary steps to remove barriers in India-United States civil nuclear cooperation. The United States is finalising steps to remove roadblocks to the civil nuclear partnership with Indian companies, he said in New Delhi on Monday (January 6, 2024). He said the formal paperwork for this will be done soon. The move will allow India to access restricted technology in the U.S. Washington and New Delhi have been discussing the supply of U.S. nuclear reactors to energy-hungry India since the mid-2000s.
