India and Ireland agree to set up Joint Economic Commission, grow trade, high-tech collaborations
India and Ireland agreed to establish a Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to coordinate on trade and international economic issues like the World Trade Organisation (WTO) after talks between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Ireland’s Foreign Minister and Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister ) Simon Harris in Dublin. The JEC is expected to meet once in two years at the level of senior officials, and a formal agreement is expected to be signed later this year.

One killed, several injured as government tries to impose free movement on highways in Manipur
A 19-year-old man was killed and more than 40 people were injured in the hill district of Kangpokpi in Manipur as Kuki-Zo people clashed with central armed police forces (CAPF) over the enforcement of free movement of all vehicles on the National Highways, which are been blocked since an ethnic violence erupted in the State on May 3, 2023. “Around 16 people and 27 security personnel were also injured,” a police official said, adding that there was stone pelting by a mob, which included armed miscreants who fired at the security forces.
Following DRI inputs, CBI registers case to probe gold smuggling racket with international links
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case involving a gold smuggling racket with international links. The probe has been launched on the basis of inputs received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), which recently arrested Kannada actor Ranya Rao at the Bengaluru airport, allegedly with smuggled gold. The agency has not yet revealed the details of the case, including the names of those arraigned in the First Information Report as accused.
