Good Governance Day 2021 – December 25

The Good Governance Day is annually observed across India on 25th December to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister(PM) of India, who was born on 25th December 1924 in Gwalior, Gwalior State (now Madhya Pradesh), British India.

• 25th December 2021, the ‘8th Good Governance Day’ marks the 97th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Background:

i.In 2014, The Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 25th December of every year, the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as Good Governance Day.

ii.The first ever Good Governance Day was observed on 25th December 2014.

Honours:

i.He was honoured with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2015.

ii.In 1992 he was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, for public affairs.

MoHUA Launched Roadmap to Make Urban India ‘Garbage Free’:

On 24th December 2021, the eve of Good Governance Day, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the ‘Azadi@75 Star Rating Protocol of Garbage Free Cities(GFC)- Toolkit 2022′, a governance tool of waste management.

About Garbage Free Cities(GFC):

i.In October 2021, PM Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0(SBM-U 2.0) with an aim to create “Garbage Free Cities(GFC)”.

ii.During the recent certification exercise for GFC, around 50% of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), i.e., 2238 cities, participated in the exercise, among which, 299 cities have been certified (9 cities rated as 5-star, 143 cities rated as 3-star and 147 cities as 1-star.)

JAG Department Celebrated 38th Corps Day – 21st December 2021

The Judge Advocate General(JAG) or JAG Department, the legal wing of the Indian Army celebrated its 38th Corps Day on 21st December 2021. JAG Corps Day is annually celebrated on 21st December to mark the day on which the Bill for Army Act was introduced in the Parliament (21st December 1949).

• The post of Judge Advocate General(JAG) in India is held by a Major General, who is the legal and Judicial Chief of the Army.

• JAG is the legal advisor to the Chief of the Army Staff in the matters of Military, Martial and International Laws.

WADA restores accreditation to India’s National Dope Testing Laboratory

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) restored the accreditation of National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) in accordance with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL), which had been suspended since August 2019.
Key Points:
i.This reinstatement allows NDTL to resume its anti-doping activities, including the analyses of urine and blood samples.

ii.This accreditation helps to boost India ‘s efforts to achieve the highest global standards of excellence in sport.
Note – Recently ‘The National Anti-Doping Bill 2021’ was introduced in the winter session of the Parliament.

Pankaj Advani wins 2021 National Billiards Title

In December 2021, Pankaj Advani defended his National Billiards Title— to win his 11th one—after defeating his PSPB teammate Dhruv Sitwala in a 5-2 game final that was held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (MP).

• He represented the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) team in the National Billiards Championship.

• The 88th National Billiards and Snooker Championships 2021, held at Bhopal, MP. It was organised by Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), the governing body for cue sports in India.

Economist Sanju Verma Authored a New Book Titled “The Modi Gambit: Decoding Modi 2.0”

Sanju Verma, an economist and the BJP National Spokesperson, has authored a new book titled “The Modi Gambit: Decoding Modi 2.0”. The book features the various achievement in the last 2 years of Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi’s 2nd term as PM of India.

• The book is published by Gaurav Book Centre Pvt Ltd.

About the book:
i.The foreword of the book is written by Padma Shri Mohandas Pai and the Afterword is written by ace journalist, Anand Narasimhan, Managing Editor at CNN News 18.
ii.The book divided into three parts –

• The first part will be Modi’s economic policies, and other reforms undertaken during his second term in office,

• The second part of the book is an exhaustive analysis of the Prime Minister’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and

• The third and final part of book traces the meteoric rise of Brand Modi.
